As a first generation Mexican-American, Yara cooks primarily Mexican influenced food. Her approach towards creating dishes is seeking out local and available produce and applying Mexican cooking techniques with a high interest in sourcing sustainably. In Los Angeles she worked in highly recognized restaurants such as Spago, Providence and Majordomo. Yara moved to New York in 2019 after being offered a job at Ko, a 2 Michelin starred restaurant by Dave Chang. In 2021, she earned my first Chef de Cuisine title at Xilonen, a vegan Mexican restaurant in Greenpoint. After the restaurants closing at the end of the year, Yara moved on to restaurant consulting. She is currently working for herself in different recipe development projects as well as doing pop ups with local restaurants and friends.
